Nikon is the one of the biggest companies manufacturing great ranges of cameras whether for professional or novice users. In fact, beginners can really take benefits from the simplicity and quality of some cameras to be able to produce professional-grade images using some automation procedures. The new Nikon D5000 adds a new line up of SLR cameras from Nikon featuring decent megapixels, great image processing and a distinguishable LCD screen. If you are familiar with the ranges of products from Nikon, you could easily tell that the camera is somewhere standing between the specifications of the previously popular D90 and D60 series.

The core specifications of Nikon D5000 are given as 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS image sensor with ISO range of 200 to 3,200 and Nikon’s EXPEED Image Processing Technology. D5000’s best is the ability to record video at 720p resolution. Another interesting feature is the articulating LCD screen; also fast continuous shooting mode.

From the outside, Nikon D5000 has plenty of similarities to the D60, especially on the control buttons. Those who are familiar with the design of D60 should not find any difficulty operating the camera. Indeed, some shapes have changed but they are all minor modifications that will not bring any strange interface from the perspective of controls. The addition of microphone is the one responsible for the changes, but users including beginners should never find any hassle. The dimension is 10mm taller compared to D60 due to the new design of the swiveling LCD screen. In the rear side, D5000 has some big differences, but users will not find it more difficult than the D60. Even better, the screen is now larger with 2.7-inch and the buttons are provided well. Live view mode button, delete button, and edit button are new, but still easy to use.

An articulating LCD screen may not be useful for casual users since they often capture images in normal position. For other people such as adventurers or backpackers, such design is perfectly helpful to help them find the most comfortable vantage points from difficult angles. Positioning is an important aspect that users can see the preview of the images before the shutter button is pressed. Since the LCD screen can accommodate many different positions following the points of views of users, the result can be greatly better. In other words, vantage points are provided in much easier ways by Nikon D5000.

In terms of video recording, Nikon D5000 delivers 720p HD movie clip, which is more preferable to reproduce high quality videos with sounds. Since the camera is one of those featuring interchangeable lens, the quality and versatility can be greatly improved. Furthermore, ISO ranges from 200 to 3,200 to absorb more light-source even in the dimmest environment.

The D90 has better compatibility with auto focusing system and also possesses large viewfinder. Nevertheless, Nikon D5000 provides more or less the same functionality; smaller in image quality indeed, but it is smaller and quieter.
